#UK folks, there's a petition to keep protection of transgender people in the equality act.

It's pretty scary being trans in this country at the moment, and we could use your help to protect our rights.

Feel free to share broadly/openly with others. Steal, boost, whatever. Let's get 100k signatures, please.

😡Something made me realise how much angrier I used to get. It’s not that things don’t annoy me anymore, but I deal with it way better now.
🕯️The town is nicely full of twinkly Christmas lights which are slowly convincing me to be a bit less ‘bah humbug’.
📱Had an iOS shortcut refusing to work because of a weird bug that I couldn’t work out but I found a workaround just after I’d given up on it.

🚗Supervised the teen learner driver for the first time (after several months of lessons) and all was fine.
📍Google Street View is basically nostalgia time travel magic.
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿And the old maps collection at the National Library of Scotland website is even further back nostalgia magic (even if you’re nostalging in England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿).

"Buying a ticket to the Kafka Museum in Prague is super easy on our website!"

Isn't that missing the point? Where is the Kafkian Experience in that? I expect buying a ticket to be awkward, confusing, take days and leave you completely baffled as to whether you have, in fact, bought a ticket or not until you reach the museum. And once there, a random sample of the people to be denied entry but be put on trial insterad. They are missing a trick.

For those curious, this was our AWS bill for November 2022. We only use AWS to run our e-mail services and the Media that you see on the site. The compute itself is hosted elsewhere.

At the moment this cost isn't sustainable for us, so we're going to be looking at some ways to cut the cost and in the not too distant future will be moving our media to alternative hosting.

A lot of Mastodon instance admins are either getting their first hosting bill or getting a very increased bill from extreme growth and usage. Some may be experiencing bill shock.

Please make sure your paying/supporting them!

Twitter was free because you were the product. Mastodon doesn't work this way.

Many instances list a patreon or donation links on their about page.

⏸️Nothing was really urgent so I did very little.
💭Long walk at twilight, enjoyed the quiet. I usually listen to podcasts or music but today it was just me & my rambling thoughts.
🧥Found my duffle coat out yesterday. I made it myself, it’s fab, snuggly and very “when I am old I will wear purple”.

I recently finished making a browser-based version of my solo game, Ada Lovelace: Consulting Mathematician. #boardgames #gamedev robindavid.itch.io/ada-lovelac

The more I play the more creepy it seems that the game revolves around filling animal pens to overcrowding and then shipping the animals off and being able to build other attractions for the zoo like um… a hot dog stand? 🤔

This has replaced my initial unease about the mechanic where if one pen of animals breed then another pen of animals also work out how babies are made which now seems pretty natural in comparison.

In 1936 the NYC Committee on City Planning published a children's book called "The ABC of city planning." My favorite is J, for Jumble, "caused only by man, who recklessly built without a good plan." Link to the full book here: chpcny.org/the-abc-of-city-pla

☕️Independent coffee shop where my loyalty card was full so I got a free latte.
📉One of the things that was stressing me yesterday got partially resolved so it’s a lot less stressful.
📱I contacted someone that I had been putting off calling for weeks and thought it was going to be really awkward but it was fine.

📉I would have expected work to be stressful today and it hasn't been. Thanking my past self (and others) for preparing things well.
📈There were other stressful things but I am coping ok with them and trying to support others.
🎄The teen forgot it was December (see previous thing) and was surprised (and happy) to see the advent calendar had been filled and hung up.

Hello people of the Fediverse! Some of you may have heard that a new Mastodon client, Ivory,  is in development for iOS (and Mac!). This is true! Tapbots is going all in on Mastodon and we hope this place continues to grow and thrive. Tweetbot will continue to be developed alongside Ivory as a lot of code is shared. A new Mac version of Tweetbot and Ivory are also currently in development and we are working hard on getting those towards a public beta state.

what was your first social network?

(plz boost for sample size)

🚗I have negotiated the teenage learner driver car insurance obstacle course. Whether I did it successfully only time will tell.
📝I downloaded @tooot and it has a drafts feature *and* line breaks in phone posts. No idea yet if it is otherwise any good but those were both features I wanted.
🪡I’m 19/20 squares done on my Sashiko embroidery sampler.

On a clear night in Kinlochleven in November, the Milky Way is visible down the loch. This shot took several attempts as the high road to the village runs to the left of this image. A 30 second exposure meant it took a bit of good timing to avoid light trails from the few cars which did venture down that night. This image was taken next to the slipway area in Kinlochleven.

"Why are so many more kids trans now?"

@SleepyCatten Some people are "worried" because it looks like more and more kids are becoming trans and/or non-binary nowadays. But the simple answer is: it used to be much more repressed. The same thing happened when schools stopped forcing kids to write with their right hand. "Suddenly" more and more kids were lefthanded. But eventually it hit a plateau at 9-10%. It's not that there weren't any lefthanded kids before - they were forced into invisibility.

This is the view out across the neighbouring rooftops, from my bedroom.

It's all digital but I layered up different textures to give a watercolour feel.

I drew this in 5 minute sessions over a couple of days when I was having wrist issues and the light of the scene changed so much with the time of day. I liked the shapes of the mid-morning shadows across the rooftops.

Some nice etymology for this last day of Listopad (November) - comes from “liście” = leaf and “padać” = fall :) 🍂🍁
