in 1958, the Bypass, Britain's first motorway, opened.

It's now part of the M6 and M55, but has been completely rebuilt beyond all recognition. In fact, it needed repairs within a few months of opening, and had to have an extra lane added after just a few years.

For any fans - it's a zebra crossing, across an active railway line!

(Yes it's low speed and a controlled environment, but it's still very unusual.)
